After Biopsies
HOME INSTRUCTIONS AFTER BIOPSY (LIPS, TONGUE, ETC..)
IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING SURGERY
Keep incision are clean.
Keep gauze (if possible) in place until bleeding has stopped.
If excess bleeding should occur, put pressure to the area with a piece of gauze until it stops. If it does not stop after 30-45 minutes notify the doctor.
After your procedure, you may resume taking all prescribed medications as ordered unless otherwise instructed by your provider.
DIET
Caution should be taken when eating, Please:
Diet of liquids until numbness is gone, then regular diet.
Be careful of sharp food such as cookies chips, pretzels, etc..
Try cold foods such as ice cream and popsicles to soothe the area.
ORAL HYGIENE
Rinse often, especially after eating, with warm water or mouth wash diluted in half with water for the first 48 hours.
An ointment may be applied if the doctor indicates. Instructions will be given for this by the staff.
FINALLY
Almost all of the sutures used will dissolve on their own. Small pieces will come out approximately 4-6 days following surgery. If the sutures need to be taken out we will schedule an appointment for you.
